ASAVARISHTA
Asavarishta is one of the most important type of Ayurvedic formulation. Prepartion of Asavrisha consists of preparation of kadha (decoction or water extraction of herbs by boiling), filtration, addition of sugar to filtrate, addition of dhayatiphul and keeping the whole mixture in wooden vats for alcoholic fermention for atleast three months. Part of sugar is converted to alcohol and around 10-12 % alcohol is self generated. Alcohol acts as preservative and solvent. Asavarishta are easily absorbed and patient gets quick relief. Asavarishta are long lasting and have longer shelf life. Asavas are prepared by using juice of herbs and arishtas are prepared from decoction of drugs in water.
